I have 5 F2 Midas cichlids which are between a 1-2inchs. The alpha of the tank isn't super aggressive but does its fair share of chasing here and there. However, there is one tank mate in particular that it doesn't, or very rarely, if ever chases. This fish is bulled by the others, but not the alpha.

I'm not sure why this would happen and my mind is wondering if they're already a bit of a pair but I thought they're a bit too small for that to occur. Does anyone know about what size Midas pair up?

Thoughts?

Way too small for them to be thinking about that. When I had 6 juvies growing out, they were 1-2" when I first got them. Took about 7 months before I started to think they were possibly picking mates, and they were about 5" at that time. Had my first spawn from a formed pair in November (after getting the group in April at the same size yours are now). A second pair quickly followed and I split them off into a different tank, and they had a spawn in December. And he beat the snot out of her and she had to be removed so he could live his life alone in his 125gal tank about a month after that.
