Okay, so today a cousin of mine asked me if I know how exactly do Doviis pair up? So I told him I'm not sure about it and will give him an answer soon after I get some info...so I need your guys help with your own experience about pairing up Doviis.

1. How exactly do they pair up? And can you pair them up together or do they have to pair up by themselves?
2. Will they fight if you try to pair them up?
3. After they are paired up, will they fight each other still?
4. And how often do they breed?
(Sorry moderators, I posted this thread again because no one bothers to look in the breeding section and I want to get these info quick)
Thanks in advance! :nilly:

A lot depends on the size/age of the fish in question but, assuming that they are relatively young (under 10"):
1. You can't do it for them. More time's than not, if you put a male and a female in a big tank together, they will be attracted to one another (I mean, who wouldn't? Dovii are some sexy *** fish!). However, if the male is dominated by the female she will eventually kill him.... which leads to #2.
2. The will test each other in the beginning and if they pass the test, they should be fine and show little aggression towards one another.
3. Well bonded pairs wont fight, IME. You'll always have to be ready to divide them though. As the male grows he'll become more and more prone to flipping out on the female.
4. Depends on how soon you separate the fry from the parents. Fry grow faster and stronger under the care of their parents. If you give them 2 solid months with the fry, they could breed every 3-4 months. More if you remove the fry as soon as they're free swimming, which I don't recommend.

Do other's feel that this is sound advice or no?
Hope this helps.

^^^^ looks good... They might breed more often than that though... Thats the only thing I see that might be a little off skew.. Breeding all depends on the pair though.(size, age, etc...) It takes time though, you need to have an environment ready for love and a strong barrier for when one of them gets abusive... which is quite common in the world of fish.

Will there be some fighting before they pair up? Like for example...they swim around together and then one try to bit the other and the other try to bite him/her back(not hard striking). And then suddenly they lip lock.

maybe......... Depends on the fish. that could be a good sign though, just keep an eye on things.. I would separate the two for a long while and let them get used to the fact that there is someone else in the tank with them.

Okay, here is his current update about his male and female dovii. The male dovii seems to be an inch smaller, and the female dovii seems to try and bite him more. But he still try to bite her back. But as of right now, they are calm and nothing too serious at all...still a little nipping on each other sides by the stomach area to throat area. Will they be a pair or its not confirmed yet? Or will it get worst later on? :nilly:
