How many breeding pairs of Cons can go into a 55g? Can I get a ratio how many females and males to get? I would also like to have a strong catfish in there so he can eat some of the eggs, what are good cats or plecos to get?

id say 2 pairs of cons or maybe 3. u should get a pair of pink a pair of black and one black one pink for the 3rd pair lol

Pictus catfish are pretty common but a convict could kick it's butt. If you don't mind spending the money, green phantom pleco are awesome. Unfortunately they crap constantly so that means more tank matainence.

Convicts are pairing fish, not colony breeders... Therefore a male and female will pair off and then see any other Convict in the tank as a threat to their pair/babies... another pair may stand up to them okay but any unpaired fish are in trouble... therefore you should have an even number of males and females...

When they are younger/smaller you could keep two pair, maybe three... when they are actual adults you could keep one pair, maybe two...

I would suggest giving yourself some diversity though... such one pair of two different species of fish...

I would have to say I agree with above...

I made this mistake not with convicts but with JD's, had one male and 3 females at one point waiting for a pair to form. As soon as they did the couple terrorized the other two females. They terrorized one female so bad I had to take her out.

Both ladies have now found great new home btw :)

So I would also suggest one pair and then some other species ...

Are you planning on putting any other species in there as well or are you going to have a 55g con tank?

I'de say either do 2 pairs or have all males or all females. If you do decide to put a catfish in with the pairs it might get beaten up. Beware!
