Hello people,

My name is Mark i have made a succesfull couple out of 8 channa Auranti group starting Juli this year. They where all wild catched

I only kept the couple they grew rapidly , Nothing to worry until now.

I dropped temperture at november slowly until 18 degrees , Both of them lost appetite about 2 weeks ago.

1 is turning out a little pale and is not active , the other one still reacts when near the aquarium and still shows activity.

Im worried that the one that became pale is ill or something is wrong since they both lost appetite.

I cant see any fungal grown signs on his mouth area or anything , ill post pictures tommorow.

He is alot on the bottom of the tank not movin not reacting if im near , he only moves when i touch him.

They sometimes dig and spit out the substrate i got in my aquarium ( they both do this )

Water checks i do regulary and i dont see anything off.

I change water every 2 weeks like 20 % to 25 %

I feed them bloodworms , worms , mealworms ( sometimes )

Sorry for my bad english i hope someone can give me advise

I try to get catappa leaves just to try

Greetings Mark

I had channa bleheri before
This is my first time with channa aurantimaculata / golden cobra snakehead

Maybe the temps were brought down a bit too quickly. I’d try and increase the temp up to 24 degrees and keep there for a while. See if the increase in temp gets them more active.

I upped the temperture, activity risen slightly .
The channa is very pale still moves from time to time doesnt eat at all .

It looks like his belly is bloating and something is wrong .

I will upload a picture tmmrw on my pc cause im unable to do with my phone.

I hope u can give me some advise,

Greetings and thanks

Mark,

Did you drop the temperature immediately after a large feeding? It's possible for food to remain undigested in the stomach after an extreme temperature drop that slows the metabolism, where it decomposes and can cause the death of the fish or reptile. I personally think that 18C is still too warm for this to occur, but I'm not a snakehead guy. Perhaps someone with more experience with these fish might comment?

Thanks for the Reply ,

I dropped the temperature like slowly like from 24 ish to 18 in like 3-4 weeks. Im like 99 % sure they didnt had a feeding frenzy before i started to drop temperature.

The last thing the fish ate was like 2 small earth worms.

The bloating does not look like dropsy at all no scales look to be pushed outside.

I hope these pictures give u guys any information that the belly is bloated.

I just saw him actually saw him take a dump , his feces looked a little dark / brown nothing strange

maybe he is just fine? mine also gets lighter in colour, doesnt eat a lot, doesnt really react when i drop the temperature.
but thats normal for him.

aldo ur looks truly white what is weird. but maybe its because you have white stones and he camouflages to white?

It died 2 hours ago :( it had internal bleedings arround the bloated belly area he went in 2 days from normal to huge bloat.

I opend him up to find alof of flued in his bloated area that smelled like putrified.

I thought it was dropsy but the store said that cant develop in 2 days that quik .I cant put my finger on it . Water parmeters are good .

It seems my female is going to be alone for the rest of her live since the chances i can get her a male are very low.
