Generally I'd like to put a pic of the fish in which I will be doing in an hour or so, but I'd like to throw the topic here now so see maybe if I get a probable answer...
I caught a cichlid in FL earlier this year..a 9-10" what seems to look like a pale blue mayan cichlid, or a blue tilapia-which I'm not leaning to at the moment...or maybe even a hybrid... its strips resemble that of a mayan-darker blue, with a hint of red highlighting at the tips of the upper fin and back fin...not sure if mayans have that or not...
the fish looks similar to this in the pic below I found on the net...however, where this fishes overall body looks skin tone, mine however looks more blue...

Like I said, please check back in an hour to an hour and a half or so as I will be posting the pic...just would like to know if it is a mayan after all!

thanks all!!!

any thoughts so far???

Hey, here's the pic of mine...and after looking at this pic, I think its safe to say that my guy is a mayan correct? The body looks a little blueish in person though...odd!!!

Def. a mayan right?

mayan, stressed

Definately looks mayan to me. A lot people always say when a fish is light or dark colored that they are stressed. This is completely untrue. Often times they are that way because they are completely relaxed or the dominate fish in the tank. Can it mean they are stressed? Yes it can, but that fish looks in not way stressed to me. Perfect fins and completely healthy looking.

thanks guys...I must say though...he looks the same color since the day I caught him...I did notice the red start to pop when I started feeding cichlid gold...other fish that I caught in the same canal looks like the same fish, but VERY colorful...so I thought this was a diff. fish...
