Has anyone used pallet racking and have any pros cons for using them?

Any suggestions welcome as they look like a cost effective option.

Are you referring to the metal stands with adjustable shelving or are you asking about using the wood from pallets to build a stand?

Industrial racks will work provided they are strong enough to hold the weight for the period they will be in use. My company used hundreds of metal industrial grade racks (stacked 5 high, or roughly 20 feet high) to hold pallets filled with materials that were far heavier than most large tanks in the 75-125 gallon range.

Contact the manufacturer and confirm the capacity and conditions required and you should be able to determine which racks will work. Make sure they know how the tanks will be placed on the racks, the weight of each tank, and what the flooring will be, and how long the tanks will sit.

^ this is correct. Additionally standard pallet racking rated capacity is based upon the rating of the beams, not the uprights (vertical posts). Some of the stronger beams (105” vs 96”) are rated at 5K total load capacity per level. I believe the regular/standard beams at 96” are also rated close to, if not right at 5K.

This is only the case is the uprights rest on a flat, concrete floor. The weight of a 240 gallon is 2500’ish lbs so we’ll under the rated limit. The beams will sag and need some reinforcement or support under the tank though.

I work directly with my company’s engineering team and state permitting when we open new distribution centers.
