Can someone please clarify what is the max size of these two Palmas species? Just wanted a confirmation about the sizes because I saw somewhere in this board that a Buettikoferi can get up to 17" and a Palmas up to 14". But on the sticky thread, it stated that both of them are around 13".

Which is the more accurate one?

They may get that big in the wild, but from my experience. My 2 palmas palmas have topped out around 11-12'' and are thick, palmas b is skinnier, and around 11'. Neither of these species seems eats as aggressively as a delhezi, ornate, or teugulsi. They like to grab a piece of fish, and hide under the log and eat, so maybe they grow slower. I've had mine for 2 years now, they were 7inches when I ordered them.
Good luck.

agree with the above. most won't get that big, expect under 12". There have been big specimen of buettikoferi caught from the wild, but that may be uncommon even for wild specimens.

Got it. Thanks!

I'm guessing they're slow growers, right? And a Palmas gets fat while a Buettikoferi is skinny. Is there any other differences these two have aside from their patterns? Is one more active/aggressive than the other?

Finally got in touch with Toyin yesterday. I may end up getting a Palmas because I like their bold pattern. I just hope my 10" Oscar doesn't make an expensive snack out of whatever I'm getting lol.

neither the palmas palmas nor palmas buettikoferi get any fatter or skinnier than the other one. they're the same, aside from individual differences. not really any difference in behavior or growth either. only big differences are the patterns. palmas polli, on the other hand, do get fat.
