so say you have something like, a treefrog for example, in the upper portion, and some sort of fish in the water, what do you do when the frog poops in the water? I mean it can't be that bad right? the frog would already be pooping in its own water and swimming in it, and since frogs are more sensitive to things like that than most fish I'd assume if the fish itself was a hardy species then it should be fine. Right?

Yes but if its a paludarium you will need a filter to house the bb that clear out the ammonia and also you could smallish aquatic plants and moss too help out taking out waste from both the fish and frogs.

I did something like that. That’s how I got into fish. I had a tank with a salamander and a water dog as a kid not knowing water dogs turned into salamanders. One day I got up and the water dog was on the land portion. So I put some goldfish in the water portion. It worked for a while, but as the goldfish grew I ended up buying a tank for them. But in short as long as you keep the water clean, I see no reason it wouldn’t work.
