pick up some panacure and syringes from my veterinarian today. i will be injecting the panacure into night crawlers and feeding to a marble that i have I'd has some nematodes in his feces. does anybody know the appropriate dosage for this med when used orally on a ray??

the vet told me the stuff is pretty safe and that i should administer 1ml once a week for 4 weeks.

any info would be sweet

thanks!

Curious about the nematode diagnosis....... Poo gazing with a microscope? Tell us more.....

Good question. I would think the dosage would depend on the weight of the animal being dosed. Did you vet offer any more advice?

This is the reason I was always hesitant in treating this way. Never knew how much to inject.

well the vet said that as with all internal meds, I.e. praziquantel, metronidazole, fenbendazole, there is little if any danger of overdosing. so to be on the "safe side" (safe meaning that we have enough meds to kill the nematodes NOT safe meaning that it is an overdose) that i should dose on the heavier side to make sure i kill all those little buggers!!!

took some poop....

put it in a jar of a saturated solution of water and sugar (saturated meaning that there is still sugar on the bottom that can no longer dissolve into solution)

shake well!!!!

take the stuff that floats up and put it on a microscope slide

this stuff that floats up is parasite's eggs. i dont know enought to be able to tell what kind but the vet said its likely nematodes. in any case i will do a 3 course treatment with panacure, prazipro, and metronidazole

that will kill them ALL!!! muahahhahahahahahahahahahaha

Great info!!

this also makes me very glad i have all captive bred rays
