I've been playing around with the idea of starting a pleco tank... My question is: I've heard the panaques spit out sawdust? How exstreme is it? Does all of them do it? I'm looking for a larger panaque, im just a little confused by the sawdust thing. Hoping to get some answers :D

The bigger the royal the more poop. Also the sawdust does collect around the tank and needs a good filter.

My Royal was about 6 inches when I bought her (Labeled $20, was a steal I couldn't let go.) and she ate the living heck out of the drift wood in there. Sawdust everywhere. When I mean everywhere I mean EVERYWHERE. Not just fecal matter, but remains of the driftwood that the fish didn't eat. Its one of those things you need to be prepared to deal with if you get fish like that.

Depend on soft or hard driftwood. If you are feeding it food also on a daily base. It will take years and years.

It is easier to deal with if you use a sand substrate where it sits at the top and is easily vacuumed rather than having to move and displace gravel stirring up the tank further.
