In the Ocean
So I got this new catfish he's a juvinial and is a inch in length. Got him from petsmart for $4 for my growout tank. Now this lil guy is swimming everywhere that's why there is no pic he will not stay still. Anyways he looks exactly like a paroon shark and the label says he max's at 24 inch I though they got bigger. Didn't want to ask the guy because he was a dumb*** and told the lady infront of me a oscar can live a full life in a 30g!!!!!! This guy must be high anyways need info on this fish. Tank size is no issue so NO ONE BRING IT UP lol. Have a 10g growout, 75g tank and then a pond 300g+. Thanks guys!

There are a lot of reported full sizes. Some say they grow to more than three feet long. Other have had them for years and only get over a foot to 2 feet. it's good that you have the space if needed because in my opinion it depends on the the individual fish. I wouldn't know what to say about yours.

If it came from petsmart it's most likely pangasius hypophthalmus which get 3+ feet. I had two that went from 1.5" to over 2' in less than 2 years. Amazing fish just keep him with a buddy as they like to shoal. They are rather skittish in small spaces so I'd recommend putting him in the biggest tank you can even before you think you need it. Hope he works out for you.

Hey Neighbor, it is not impossible but the probability is miniscule you got a paroon. It is probably an IDS. If you provide a lot of light, your photocamera will take a fine pic of a moving fish.

IDSs rarely exceed 2'-2.5' in captivity. Paroons rarely exceed 3.5'-4' in captivity. IMO, 300+ gal is not enough for either adult. Plus they are very active swimmers, requiring more room than less mobile fishes.

I'd not trust their labels and advice much, as you have just convinced yourself.

Location was in clearwater and did you understand the plus part? my pond is 2 foot deep and 10 foot diamiter im sure they will be fine. Also i think they are id's and not paroon but all i have to do is drive 30 mins to the other store and pick up real paroons if i wanted to. Just wanted you guy's opinion.

I think I must apologize - I was merely providing feedback based on what has been stated. But you did ask for no feedback on the tank sizes, so yes, my bad. Your new info means that your 10' diam. x 2' pond is 1155 gal. That's one huge plus part, mate! :) :) :)
