Question why are the ones in the blue comment squares on this page http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Catfish, Pangassius.htm so small for being so old?

Towards the bottom a lay had an albino for 25 years and it only got 18 inches, yet shows no sign of stunting?

I'd say most likely stunted, just not so badly that it was able to survive. Also, there is variation in any species.

So how did they get stunted , yet not look deformed, and still live up to 25 years?

Was it due to good genetics allowing allowing them to be sunted yet not deformed?

This is very interesting to me, not going to do it myself, just whats behind it.

First, we have no idea what their organs look like,or if these fish really are 25 years old. Also, its probably just like some people are able to drink, smoke, and generally abuse their bodies terrible, and yet live to 100 when anyone else who tried that died 40 years earlier. Tons of these guys are sold at places like Petsmart/Petco. So, with those sort of high numbers, statistically a tiny handful that happen to make it in crappy conditions isn't a stretch.

THats certainly true Wet Whiskers

I had 2 that grew from 1.5" to over 2' in 2 years before I gave them away. They are very sensitive fish and do not eat much if they don't feel comfortable hence slowing their growth. If they are kept in a large tank/pond under good conditions they will grow rapidly.
