I have 3 silver arowanas that used to be very jittery when I move, but have calmed down a bit. However, as soon as the lights go off, they seem more afraid than usual. Everytime I walk by them at night they panic to no end until I leave, thrashing around. This scares me because they might be hurting themselves. Is it normal for arowanas to be more panicky at night? And do they ever sleep?

Need more information on your setup.
Usually, very skittish aros mean the tank is small. Add a night light or have outside light penetrate the room.

i've been having camera troubles, i'm trying to fix that. The arowanas are only about 10-11 inches, and the tank is 6 feet long and is pretty tall and wide as well. (i dont remember the dimensions hahaha) There arent any tall decorations(in fact, theres nothing but gravel, piece of driftwood at the bottom, and a few rocks), and there are no other fish in there besides a pleco.

6'? So, may be a 180G? If so, kind of small for 3 aros to thrive together.
Have you checked water parameters? What is the temp? What do you feed them? WC schedule?

Sorry to say: 3 silver arowana's in such a tank is under housing them, comfortably.

The temperature is 80-81 degrees F. and I feed them twice a day: 30 hikari food sticks in the morning, 30 more in the evening. I know they will quickly outgrow the tank, but for now they have more than enough space. Also, they were raised together so fighting is not an issue, especially because they are all about the same size. Every weekend, i give them 20 crickets in replacement of one of the servings.

So far, so good.
I'd add tilapia fish fillets, mealworms, boiled slices of beef or chicken heart to their diet.
Some times irritation is due to having the water flow rough. Opposite of a smooth in and out flow.
That's if water parameters are perfect.

hey joseph.. :) more queries eh.. great.. its pretty common for them to do that.. silvers are pretty skittish.. give them time to adjust to your presence.. avoid sudden movements.. waving hands etc.. i'd suggest you remove any deco in the tank.. the driftwood.. they could injure themselves.. and i hope you have a heavy tank top.. where exactly is the tank? inside your house or do you have a separate room for the tank?? i'd suggest you switch off the tank light and leave a dull room light on.. make sure they can see you enter the room or exit.. they'll be fine in a week.. jus dont stress them a lot.. cheers mate..

dude no worrys ,
mine does the same ,
just give them a little light ,

mines the same , did it more when he was in a smaller tank tho.wee night light in the room works for me.
