Duane, what's your experience been with aggression of the pantos? I kept some a while back, and they were some mean SOB's, especially to each other. I had 4 in a community 180, and even with a big tank and other fish, they continuously beat on one another (and they were only around the 4" mark!).

This is my 2nd attempt at pantostictus, my 1st try ended up much like yours, where a large male killed 4 females.
I now have 10 in the same tank (no other species), of varied sizes, and so far...with so many targets, no one is taking the brunt, and the others seem to be cementing the pair bond (the pair are the largest 2 of the 10).
I have a feeling if spawning is eminent, this may all be out the window, and all but the pair will either need to be sequestered on the other side of a divider, or removed altogether.

My 10 individuals range from about the smallest, about 2" up to the dominant pair (male 4+", female 4" or a little smaller.
When I had pantostictus the 1st time, the male was about 10".

but back then the females were half his size.

I'm hoping with the new pair, being similar in size, the outcome may be less lethal
