When she would come out he'd try to lead her to his new nest, but he's been so rough on her she's to afraid most of the time. She stays hidden for a month or two and they he lets her stay out for a month or two while she pretends she wants to breed, then back to the beat downs.

The reason for the hideout. I could hear the hit from 5' away.

Over the weekend these guys took the kids for a walk. I watched the male circle the jag and hit him in the side 3 times. This time the jag saw him coming and went after him. These two parents should get battle citations for honor and bravery for holding off the entire tank for 3 days.

Beautiful pair! But it must be pretty stressful for that female to be isolated in that floating hideout for so long. How long have these two been a pair?

what a great set up ..and love the fish... im having the same prob with my male motaguense hybrid and my female motaguense but i also have a smaller tank...

If that pink con female would have went and stood up to the jag in the 3rd video she would have been eaten xD i have a pink pair just like that:) your jags and tank are both stunning

Thanks for the compliments.

They'v been together for about 10 months. As long as she has a place to hide where she only has to defend from the front she's not stressed. She comes out and eats and messes with him as much as he goes over there and messes with her. She's 9" and I made the tube 12" so she could get in far enough that he couldn't grab her and drag her out. It's 3" tall and she just fits.

Is the female a jag or a Freddy? Can't tell on my iPhone. Your platinum hrps are stunning btw.

They've been breeding snacks in my community tanks for 2yrs. But this is the first batch in with the jag and they amazed me. Both are meal size for the jag. On their next batch I'm going to set the camera on a tripod and let it run until I catch the male con pull that circling move on the jag. It was so methodical and tactical. If he's seen, he gets chased and the jag is away from the fry. If he succeeds, he gives the jag a little sting for coming to close, then gets chased and the jag is away from the fry. That con will win most of the time but there are no second chances when your bit size.
