hey guys picked up my first freddy today was wondering what the main differences are between a him and a jag will chuck some pics up later on of him when my batteries charge for my camera.. cheers

jags are much bigger and more aggressive IME. I like freddy coloring better, although some members here have some crazy looking jags (very purple)!

body type is simalar, freddy's have totally different markings and spoting, also can be somehwat redish in complextion. toss soe pics if you aren't sure.

Jags and dovii's I consider as the oddball looking parachromis. Freddy's and Mota's I think look Identical IN BODY SHAPE not coloration. Loisellei look alot like a mota but with more of a Salvini shaped back. I consider Salvini part of the Guapote family even though they say they aren't. Jags have FAR more speckaling on the body grow larger and I wouldn't say they are more aggro that Freddies but in more general terms slightly more. I have never seen a Freddy's with red complextion ever. The ones I see are very very yellow and have dark vertical lines like Jags but not like Mota's where it splits into y's at the bottom. I have only seen motas and jags with red complextion and in fact my male manny has an extreme amount of red tint on his body. Jags head structure is different as well. With jags they have more beefy under jaw and it curls more over the upper jaw than that of motas and freds. Oh and EXCELLENT JAG BTW in your avatar!!!

Believe it or not, that's not the first time i've heard this.....I think it's to do with location, dentition and diet........suppose to be mini Guapotes in attidute and requirements.

wow never heard this before. and imo even with the simalarity's i really can't justify classifying them under Guapotes for myself, but at least i learned something today.:)

Well I consider them as they said mini guapote. With the body shape some what of a loisellei and mouth as well. Plus they come from the same rivers as a jag or Mota. They are also a small preditor and have an extreme attitude problem. In my eyes they are a little parachromis lol.

thanks for the break down Cross.......Hey, XR, when I first heard that, it kinda took me back as well. The more I thought about it though, the more it started to kinda makes sense to me...Still isnt a perfect fit, but seems like it would be a distant part of the genus
