Looking for some experienced Dovii keepers.
I've recently aquired a 4" juvenile. It's an awesome fish so far. Itso ver uh curious, active, eats tremendously and all around great.
I'd like to know some characteristics that I can be on the look out for, for distinguishing genders. Also, traits as to try and place what origin it is from.
Thanks in advance.

*Male has lots of dots.

*Major attitude at 10 inch.

*Do not put your fingers in the tank!!!!

*Get ready to only have one fish in the Tank, unless it is a female dovii and pairing is successful!

Had a Male Dovii in a 90, it's true, even in a 90 they pretty much own the whole tank. Lost him at about 10". He just didn't seem happy. I learned my lesson the hard way.

There cool to have. but once your stuck with it. your stuck Lol. and yeah there not the type to have friends in the tank

Do you know if it is a male or female? Males get large and need a pretty big tank. I think the ideal size is something 8' long and 3' feet wide or larger. Having said that, a 180 gallon 6' long and 2' wide will last for many years. Once they get 16" or so they really should have a larger tank. They can cover that space in no time, I think large adult males should have at least 8' of length and as much depth as possible, height of the tank is not as big of as deal.I have a 8' tank that is 3' wide for my male but can't fit that in my new house so I am having a 8' x 30" tank built. I don't feel great about it but think that will give him a good amount of room. Females get big but not the size of males. Plenty of water changes, I change my tank every week, 50%. Feed them a good pellet for carnivores. They are a fun fish to keep but require some dedication and money for the long term. They will not last in community tanks the size most of us have, I have only seen large adult males in established tanks in public aquariums, 10,000 gallon tanks or so. Keeping a pair requires a lot of space and some really good strong hiding spots for the female, every now and then the male will go after her and can move some things that are in his way if need be. Expect males to get around 24" + and females around 16".

Dovii are absolutely stunning and a very cool fish to keep, but it's a commitment to say the least. Heed Exoticgreen and NWatson. NWatson has quite a bit of first hand experience.

I'm almost positive that it's male. I would upload a few pics but I'm not having any luck figuring out how to do it on the mobile app.
My dovii iso about 4" now. Has grown an inch at least in the few weeks I've had it. It's already got the dark spots all over and in the fins.
