A while back I was sold a female freddy cichlid (friedrichsthalii) she's about 7-8in and aggressive, I kept her with convicts in a 55 while she grew out and she easily killed both a male and female at 5in. My question is she's been clearing out flower pots all week, she has her breeding tube down and everything. Then about a day agp I was sold a juvi friedrichsthalii only 3in I put the lil guy in his own tank but looking more closely at him it seems like it's a managuensis. Now will I have to worry about the to species crossing? They are from the same family and I'd much rather find a large pure male friedrichsthalii. Thank you for helping I'll post pics asap I just need to upload em

Looks a lot like my juvy Jag did up until about a month ago when he really gained some markings. Here's a pic I took today of him, for possible comparison. He's about 3.5" now.

EDIT: Comparing the two pictures, I'd definitely say you have a Jag on your hands.

EDIT 2: Here's a better shot to compare.

Thank you for clearing this up. I'm assuming I still have to worry about crossing?

Since they're in the same family and all, I'd say so. But if it were me, I'd almost be excited for it. I'm not one that's against hybrids, and I'd kind of hope for it. But to each their own.

Well it's hard finding a good breeding sized male Freddy at the LFS around here maybe this will be for the best and I can finally get her a mate, jags are aggressive as all hell I've heard so I need to get these two alone in there own 55 soon I'd say. Can you confirm that the female is a Freddy?
