I have had three of these before and got them all at the 4 to 5 inch size. My question is I got one at about an inch And a half at the same time I got a black belt, jag, and mota. This was back in august all the fish were around the same size 1.5-3 inches. Now my black belt is more then 8 inches the jag just over 7 and the mota just over 5. My fredie is about 2 and a quarter inches long are these guys usually this slow to grow? My old fredies seemed to grow pretty quick.
Just to cover the first questions I always ask when someone posts something like this. Temp at 79 f, tank 150 gallons, other tankmates are sailfin pleco. There is no major aggression directed at the fredie soley. The black belt runs the tank and picks on everything without discrimanation. It eats every time all the other fish do. Does not hide much. Is on a diet of hikari gold and staple every day, and blood worms and brine alternating each day. I give them home raised young sword tails as a treat about once a week, and frozen peas once a week (wich by the way all my fish love). Water changes are performed every three days at 40-50 percent. Water levels are ph 7, and no sign of ammonia or nitrites, on occasion slite sign of nitrates.
Mostly looking for any experiance on raising these guys from a small size. I don't know if they just start out slow or what. But its pretty small with these other big guys and don't want any of the big guys to pick on it because of that. Although they haven't yet you all know how unpredictable cichlids can be.
Thanks for any responses and thanks for looking.
