I was wondering if anyone could clairify what this is growing on my La ceiba.

A little info on the fish... I purchased this pair as a breeding pair from a "supposedly reputable" supplier. I was informed the original fish i wanted were sold so i was given the chance to purchase this pair.

I was told the female was missing a good portion of her tail. I thought no big deal it will grow back.

Here we are 4/5 weeks later... it is growing back along with what i believe is lymph as its on the anal fin and where the half of fin is growing back. I am not 100% sure as i have never experienced growths of any kind before other than ich and i can assure its not ich.

I am quite disapointed as i paid very good money for this pair and im 90% sure its lymph.

I also believe the seller knew this prior to shipping the pair because the portion of tail that is missing did not look like a bite from the male. It looks as if scissors were taken to it to remove the cysts prior to sale as it was a clean cut through the rays

I did not expect this from this particular supplier and will be contacting him in regards.

Here are the best photos i could get. She is very shy and they were taken with cell. Also included is a pic of the male20161018_134317.jpg 20161018_135343.jpg 20161018_135445.jpg 20161018_134932.jpg

Male is second pic, he doesnt show signs of growths. I have the pair separated in a 150 gallon by themselves while the females tail was healing.

I can't tell from the pics, (my eyes aren't the best anymore) but your scissors comment certainly favors your conclusion. Dang, sorry to hear that. Not the end of the world, but not cool either.

Heres a little better pic of the bottom"growth" on the anal fin.

Im sure its lymph as it hasnt done anything but get larger. It is what it is, i have a replacement female on its way should be here tomorrow.

Im not sure what to do with the one thats sick. I ordered some polyguard to try.

It certainly looks like it could be. Not much you can do as it's a virus, and while it can go into remission it can always come back when/if the fish comes under stress.
