okay i have a female losellei about 7 1/2 ,8 inchs that is paired up with a slightly larger rtm since the rtm was about 3 inchs with no issues till now he wants to breed with her and is constantly chasin her down non stop nipping and somtimes realy attacking her out of frustration, but the biggest problem is ive had the losellei for about 7 or 8 yrs and i never seen her lay eggs ever .is it a possibility that she cant lay eggs... i would just like some help cuz i dont want to stress her out anymore ...

I imagine it would be possible for her to not. Could be a lot of things as to why though... fish are weird creatures. How long and persistent are the attacks when he gets nasty?

Also, what is your maintenance routine on your tank? How big is the tank? Water parameters? Diet of the fish?

the tank is a 75 standerd i do 2 water changes a week and all the parameters are all fine. the diet is night crawlers hikari massivre delite and hikari food sticks and what ever insects are around ...and it takes a good 15 to 20 mins for him to get nasty but the hole prob is for that 15 20 he dosnt stop nipping her back side the whole friggen time then he goes crazy .they have ben together in the 75 for almost 5 months with no aggression till the rtm got to her size im goin to purches the divider today so he doesnt kill her...

I'd be careful of the male RTM. They can be downright mean when trying to breed. I tried dividing my pair and somehow the male was able to jump the divider and get to the other side of the tank.

I'm not saying the divider won't work...I'm just suggesting you make sure there are no gaps...even up to a few inches above the water line.

Good luck,

thanks for the advice, but he has calmed down a bit ,for now ,but it seems like she is responding to him by shaking, twitching and nipping at him now. how would u know if she was gettin ready to lay eggs...

Her tube would come out if she was gonna lay. Trust me you won't miss it haha it's nasty.

okay i have removed the divider they have dug a huge nest around the clay pot her breeding tube has ben out for almost 2 days she is shaking constantly to get the males attention flaring her gills at me(and never had done tha tbefor) i have kept the tank at about 80 degrees with reg water changes and no eggs am i doing something wrong...

I have had fish before that would not breed in bright tank light . I kept a lamp on in the room so it was dusky in tank but not too bright ! Sounds a bit weird like sexy mood lighting but it worked for me lol .
