I bought a clutch of Jag fry in june, these guys were no bigger than an inch. They were food for my other fish - this guy refused to get eaten and is surely an Alpha male the growth in the 5 months has been absolutely insane! He's an 8" very robust fish in record time (at least for me). He grew so fast in the Charciform 180 he had to be moved because he desimated the food supply. Went from 1-3" in a month. The only other tank I own that's not filled with large tooth monsters was the the african Hap tank. Figured he be okay til' I found him a good home BUT he's just way too amazing to let go of. Guess I gotta get him his own tank. Now i'm no stranger to large fast growing fish I own quite a few but never in all the New World Cichlids I've owned or breed have I seen one go from Fry to 8" in 5mo. not even Oscars. 1st pic end of June, 2nd today - the africans are for the most part are 5 years old and range from 5 to 12" - CRAZY

Wow! He's a beauty! Gotta love those survivor stories. They always turn out to be the best looking fish! My pair of Yellowheads are both rescued fish. One had jumped from the rearing tank into a non-filtered planted tank at the LFS, and the large male was a loner in a 20-gallon tank after he had killed the rest of his brothers and sisters.

Now the two have formed a great pair bond! haha. You should get your boy a female!

I had the samething happen with a firemouth - bought a clutch, dom male refused to get eaten and still resides in the charciform/datniod/chicla tank. The growth on FM is very ordinary - he might be a tiny 3" after 6 mo. not much in height or girth.

hes gorgeous whos the feeder now? HAHAHAHA
