Is anyone on the forum lucky enough to own one or some of these fish? Are they truly freshwater and tropical fish? Would love to hear about them.

They are both fresh water and tropical but like all rainbows they require semi hard water 10-20 ppm with a ph 7.2- 7.5. they are kept at many stores in the wrong parameters and they soon die when stressed one more time when they go home to a soft or hard water community. Beautiful though!

They pop up every once in a while and the last vendor I noticed to have any for sale was All Happy.

They're euryhaline which means they can exist in a wide salinity range including freshwater. In aquaculture, they grow larger and are less prone to disease in increased salinity.

Thanks for the input. I realized I should have put a scientific name. Are we all talking about the Polynemus paradiseus? I think post 3 and 4 are, just not sure if post number two is.

I think post #2 refers to the east asian Macropodus sp. paradise fish related to gouramies.
good point. the paradise fish didn't cross my mind. I was thinking it refereed to the iriatherina werneri - threadfin rainbowfish. Aren't common names just great.
