Hi, I have a pair of bamboo shrimp in my planted dwarf cichlid tank. Recently I have been having filament algae problems. As a result I have been focused on ridding my tank of the stuff. As a result I tried a number of things, and most recently Hydrogen Peroxide dosing.

But after my fist dosing i noticed one of my shrimp lieing on its side and it appeared dead:cry: But when I used my net to take it on its trip to the toilet for the big flush, as soon as the net touched it it started twitching and trying to get a way...but it could only move literally like 1 inch at a time. As a result i left it in the net suspended in the water so that the other fish wouldnt take the dieing shrimp as a snack. I figured that this was a result of the peroxide (Which i read would be benificial after the first few hours) and abruptly did a series of large water changes over the next few days. But it has been a week, and 3 water changes and the shrimp is still alive, but still unable to move and unable to feed:( The second shrimp is still alive and feeding sparsely. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on here?? or should i take this as a hit and sacrifice the shrimp:confused:

There is a chance that the H2O2 burnt the gills of one shrimp more than the other. It is a good sign that it isn't dead. If the gills atre burnt the can recover, but in the mean time the gills will not absorb as much oxygen (suffocating). I have chloromine burnt fish gills before, and some fish healed over a month period (I added tons of bubblers and diffusers to get oxygen into the water).
