Hey,

I have a banjo cat in my 46 bow in a community with rams and tetras and a clown pleco. I got him a coupla months ago and he disapeared for a month or so. No problem, when i saw him again he looked a bit shrunken and was a bit lathargic. I made sure I was covering all my bases with food and water conditions and waited to see what happened. It is now 4 months later, I only see him once every two weeks to a month. He still looks the same and is a non mover. Today i see him sitting in a plant and looks like he is stuck there. I kinda giggled the plant because i never know if this guy is alive or not. He just glided to the bottom. I figured i lost him so i went to pick him up and he moved his pecs. I let him go and he glides to the bottom and kinda walks like a lungfish oor snakehead. He is very much alive but his condition has not changed. All other fish in the tank are healthy. Is this a banjo thing? Does he have a spinal injury behind the dorsal? If anybody has any feedback it wold be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the long post.

can you post any pick's when poss?

i have never kept one but i would say if you have had him for 4months and he is still ok you must be doing something right.

i am sure others on mfk will help you with good advice

and welcome to MFK!

Banjo Cats are VERY "lazy" They don't move much, so it's nothing to worry about.;)

I wouldn't worry too much. On another forum, I recently referred to banjos as the "cockroaches of the fish world," meaning that they are ridiculously resilient. I wouldn't worry too much. As someone pointed out, they are indeed very lazy. All of mine appear to be healthy, but they let me pick them up and move them when they get in the way of my cleaning the tank or rearranging things.

I have a bunch of these guys and this is completely normal. Most of the time, you'd never know they are in the tank. Then you walk by and one is sitting on the bottom or on top of a rock. Most of the time they're under the gravel. They come out mostly at night because when I turn on the lights in the morning, there's always a couple sitting there.
