Parasite-free live foods

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Am I doomed to go the frozen route? Some parasites even survive freezing, so I don't much like that either...

if is something you are producing, like brine shrimp, or guppies/feeder fish you won't encounter this problem

Unless my guppies are an unaffected carrier. Good thought though, thanks.

I don't believe those are foods, my friend.

Quarantine your feeders and treat them with Prazi Pro if you're concerned about parasites (which is what TUFF was telling you).

thank you fo clarifying!

but if we are going to wise guys;

I know of many parasite free feeders. They are the ones that I have quarantined and treated for parasites and infection for a duration lasting until i am satisfied that they are parasite and disease free. ;)

There is no better way that I know of.

Sorry. Didn't mean to sound sarcastic. I really didn't know what you meant.

I guess deworming live foods could work, but it would get expensive. And would anti-parasitic drugs kill a lot of the very foods I'd be using?

Oh, BTW, I'm not thinking of fish for food here. More on the worm and bug side of things.

no worries, I have no hard feelings.

I dont find it to be too costly. i usually medicate a few hundred at a time and the meds are based on he volume of water so the moreyou treat at a time the more cost effective it is. that is my method for feeder fish.

for night crawlers and other non fish feeders i just quarantine. and not usually for very long. someone please correct me if I am wrong but the parasites that would take an insect as a host will not be transferred by being fed to your fish.
