Alright so a couple months ago back when it was warmer out i caught a couple of blue gill and a pumpkin seed in my minnow traps. I thought it would be a good idea to bring them home to my aquariums, well i was wrong. While keeping these fish i noticed that they had some weird marks on their tail fins and didn't really think anything about it. Then a couple weeks of having these fish i noticed that those spots started to look like small worms coming out of the fish. I did try once to remove the worm with tweezers on the pumpkin seed and after i removed the worm i thought the pumpkin seed was parasite free. I ended up taking all the blue gill right back to where i found them because i know the parasites came from that water i didn't think id be introducing anything different to this pond. Ive found more small parasites on my pumpkin seed the last few weeks and hes always rubbing up against rocks in the aquarium. Ive treated him multiple times with parasite clear and its done nothing. I really don't care for the pumpkin seed anymore since he's caused so many problems but i do care for my other fish that im now worried he has infected.

I know how your not suppose to return fish back to where you found them after keeping them in an aquarium for awhile but i just am tired of buying parasite clear for this fish, what can i do with him?

Now that i am worried about my other fish i will be going out to buy more parasite clear just for them just in case they may be infected. Would that be ok if i use parasite medicine on fish that i may think have parasites? or should i just leave them and hope they don't have them?

Thanks for any help, and from now on i probably wont be putting wild caught fish in my aquarium in the future.

How well of an experienced fish keeper are you?

The reason I am asking is because I know of a method that will help your pumpkin seed, but you must be 100% precise with this method.

Potassium Permanganate is a method to use after you have used everything else. It will kill any and all parasites on your fish.

It's well known in the Koi industry.

If you are interested in more information, PM me and I can give you a more in depth explanation.

I think he is past saving, I wouldn't consider myself very experienced Ive really only been in this hobby for about a year and a half.

what i may just do is keep him alone in a 10 gal so he wont infect any other fish, it would be better then just killing him and would save me money on trying to cure the parasites.

Well, is it the only fish affected? Like is he in his own tank?

One dip, and he will be parasite free and a happy camper.

10 gallons?! that's not big enough for a river fish.

I know 10 gallons is small and i feel bad but i really have no idea with what to do, i'm tired of spending money on him. He is currently with my red fin pickerel because i don't have any tanks free right now unless i go get another 10 gallon from my dads garage.

He use to be in with my wolf fish and tiger Oscar so i am a little worried they may have been infected but its defiantly not as bad and isn't really showing on them like it is him. Even though its not showing on them i have seen my wolf fish rub up against rocks so i was going to add some parasite clear just to be safe.
