I have a 5" female flowerhorn in a 55 hex. Params are good. Temp is at 83 deg. The tank has been up and running 3 months now. I have noticed a few spots where the scales have a slightly yellow tint and are protruding slightly away from the body. Tonight I looked and it looks like there maybe something behind the affected scales. I did one treatment of "copper free" 6 days ago under the assumption this is a parasite infection. The treatment doesn't appear to be helping. Any ideas what I am dealing with?

Can you get close up pic of the affected area?

I can try. She doesn't stop moving so I'll have to net her to get a decent pic. She doesn't seem to be rubbing or flashing. It doesn't seem to have any affect on her other than the the visual ones. She has a healthy appetite always. I'll get pics one here asap.

Ok. Here are a couple pics. The first is a pic of the "parasite?" which is now hanging out from behind a scale. The second is of the affected area which has a yellowish tint to it and an arrow pointing at the white "thing" on its side. Both sides of this fish have these symptoms. Please help me figure this out. Thanks!

Could be anchor worms.
Treat the fish in a hospital tank for parasites with either Lifegaurd, ParaGuard, Ich-Attack or even General-Cure by API.
If she isnt flashing or itching, I would go with Ich-Attack as it is all natural and kills parasites well. It smells weird though, FYI. and I would do a hospital tank for only her.
Good Luck. Thats a nice looking fish. I wish you success.

Thank you! I was wondering how fish get anchor worms, so I can prevent it in the future and if I treat her in a hosp. tank will the tank she's in now(55hex) need to be treated to be rid of any eggs or worms that may be in there?

you have used ich attack and it worked?? I have tried it twice now and it did NOTHING for me. First time I treated ich for a week with it doesing 2 times a day doing wc every other day and the ich never got better.

I used it again and saw no improvment in my fish.

Coppersafe is a good cure all for parasites of all kinds. I have had it work well even with plants and pictus cats. With parasites you need to treat the whole tank.
