Hey i have a senegal that is about 5 inches long in a 20gallon growout. recently i noticed a bunch of small worm like things on the body. The last 10 days i was on vacation and i threw some feeders in the tank so the fish in the tank could eat while i was gone. stocklist is the senegal, lima shovelnose, rapheal catfish, rainbow shark, a single platy. no other fish in the tank have these things. The senegal appears to have at least 30+ of these small things. They look like small strings hanging off the body. They appear to be stripped with a dark and lighter band and are very small. They are hard to see in normal light and i need to point a flashlight at them to see most of them. It kinda also looks like its pieces of himself coming of whether that is tissue or slim coat as some are close to skin color. I am really confused with these because when i look at them some look like nothing and others look like worms.
Has anyone experienced these odd looking things? I am fairly new to polys and my only other one is a 10inchish senegal in my 120. I do not see these marks on him.
Thanks for any help and i will attempt at a picture later today.

Yes, they are parasites. I've dealt with the exact same thing...

Treat with PraziPro. Just read the directions on the back of the bottle. One treatment was enough for me.

Good luck.

This morning when i originally posted i also added salt and jungle parasite clear to the tank. It appears that most of the stringy things ahve disappeared. If they were parasites would that have died off this quickly?

I just had the same thing in my poly growout, apparently its a the most common parasite on a senegal but hes the only one that survived in my tank,i lost two 8" p pollis 3 7" endlis and a 5" ornat in two days and i did treat it with a parasite med and salt, the other fish were not affected at all.

Good luck
