Seeing courstship colors, on Friday I did a 50% water change in preparation to harvest some "holdover" F1 P. guttulatus fry. Would have been 90% otherwise. Didn't have time Saturday to do anything but get few stills of both parents:

By Sunday they already began to lay.
Before they were completely finished, I added some Jungle to prevent egg fungus, which we know, unfortunately, turns the water yellow/green. Then I thought, "Hey, why not shoot some XXX cichlid porn, AKA poetry in motion?" You can see the female depositing eggs on each pass and the male scattering his essence. Parental Guidance suggested:

In the meantime I caught a couple of pretty decent shots of one of my two Synspilus Rio Sarstoon 14" bulls down below the gutts:
The other guttulatus girl in 210A seems frigid, so far. Except when feeding, she's pretty much on the, er, in the pot 24/7. I had another trio "upstairs" but moved them to a 350 gallon unit mainly because I like the looks of this male better. He was actually outside in a 350 for a while himself with both girls where the pair first formed. The water was so green for so long I didn't know it 'till the fry started hitting (nibbling) on pellets:
Anyhow, another shot (below) of the synsilus bull and a couple girls he's supposedly courting with pretty high potential. Just hoping he's not queer. The other bull in the tank certainly doesn't think so. Still flaring some orange (but nothing like when she was over the clutch) one of the girls layed 10 days ago but apparently pappa forgot to take his Ginseng.
Need some nightcrawlers - big cichlid Viagra. Brown's B&T quoted me around $70 on a box of 500, but I don't know if they still have them this time of year. If it were warm enough I'd throw a piece of pork out back for maggots. I'm itching to have activity in both 210A and 210B. "Double the pleasure, double the fun," so to speak.
