I was wondering from those of you that have kept this species how aggressive they are towards each other? also how big they get in the first year?

i am wanting to get a pair of these for a 125 with some dithers to add to the tank(wife hates only two fish) will this work or are they to aggressive? thanks.

Males could grow from a few inches to 8-10 + inches in a year. I have 4 growing out with some other central american cichlids in my 180 without any problems. The dominant male would sometimes chase the other two males but does not inflict any damage.

A 125 should be big enough for a pair with a few dithers. I have mine with silver dollars amd clown loaches too.

Mine are currently with Severums.

As far as Vieja go, they're pretty mild. A little bit of chasing and fin nipping, nothing bad. All bets are off when breeding though.

I have three that are under 1 year old that are 6-8" and are in community tanks without issues.

mine were pretty mellow and housed with severums and synodonis cats, got a little nippy when breeding but my decorus didnt care and would rob the nest. heres a pic of the pair and then the robber

Thats a nice thief!!!

I have a male housed with other milder Central Americans. He's fairly mellow and doesn't really start any trouble but he's also the dominate fish in the tank but is a gentle ruler. I like the temperment of this fish. I got mine from Rapps early this year and he's gone from 2 to 6 inches.
