I got this pic from a LFS I could have gotten a better pics but didnt want the owner to trip about me taking pics of her fish.

I'm wondering this is a pollieni right? and do all of them turn out this way when they get this size or is it just with a certain sex or just genes that gives them the head hump and coloration??

Guessing by that giant lump under the gills, the fish is a short-body. I'm no pro, it's just looking like bonsai FH and other SB fish I see.

My SB paratilapia Polleni is still only about 4" long so it doesn't look like that. I hope mine doesn't get that weirdo beardo. Still, he's a relatively uncommon fish and looks to be quite healthy. If you like him, get him.

i believe male gender and mainly age
(growth) that gives it that defined robust grown up look.

Yeah, it looks robust and healthy, but why does it have that lump below its jaw? I've seen that in other fish, but usually in flowerhorns. I suspect it has something to do with inbreeding and stray morphology rates in different tissues. It's not the worst thing, it's just kind of...staring at me like an overgrown wen.

That's just a normal trait for older mature polleni. If you search through TUIC pics Jeff Rapps had a pic of one that was much the same.
Unfortunately mine went down with bloat, so I never got to see it fully mature:(

I currently have 5 grow outs I am waiting to get sexually mature so I can form some pairs. Polleni are beautiful fish, and seeing as they are on the cares list I would encourage anyone who can to breed them.

it looks like a great specimen, I'd buy it asap

It was my first question for the owner, how much is it?? But it was not for sale... So maybe next time.

Yea i saw that, I wanted to order some from jeff but just dont have the funds right now or space. So far he is the only one that i found that sells polleni's bigger than a few inches.
