This three year old pair of 'bleekeri' looks like they are getting ready to spawn for the first time. Another pair in this 180G have spawned three times over the last couple of years. There are two 10" males and four 7" females in there along with one pair of P. oligacanthus and two pair of P. grandidieri. Over the last few days, all three species have either spawned or are getting ready to. Here is a video of this "first time" (AFAIK) pair preparing their spawning site- a secure area at one end of the tank behind a large chunk of driftwood. Here is a short video of the new pair.

Thanks. Yes they're one of my favorites (I say the same thing about all the fish that I keep:thumbsup: - they're all pretty wonderful)

Thanks for the vid. I always enjoy your vids. Can you elaborate a little more on these guys? I have a chance to scoop some up and doing my research first.

Jim yours look like P sp Andapa with that yellow border/seam on the dorsal
I have 4 small spot in a 125 gal (1 male and 3 females,(I think)), with some Paretroplus maculatus, a pair of Herichthys bartoni and a quintet of young Herichthys bocourti.
The Paratilapia male is the largest fish in the tank at about 8" and rules as the alpha, but at least so far, has not become dangerous to the others. He and a female have spawned at least once in the tank, but eggs didn't make it thru the night.
I feed a combination of koi pellets, and HBH soft spirulina and shrimp pellets, all are taken greedily. But why blather, pics are much more interesting.

I was wondering how long did it take for the bleekeri to reach that size 10"?
