Paratilapia worked up expecting food

Nice show. looks like you're gonna have fun with that new toy.

Yes trying to get familiar with it before I go to snorkel in the cenotes of Mexico again.
The under water scenery with the large, blue mollies and wild JDs was fascinating.

oh wow, what an adventure! when are you going, does that camera work underwater and are you bringing fish back?

Hope to get there in Nov. Was there last Nov, didn't bring fish back, just some still pics from above the water.
Would love to get some wild JDs, but don't know if its possible at this point
The Go Pro has a water tight case, I'm not quite pleased with the fish eye look it takes, but it was affordable, and will do in a pinch I think.

There were blue male sailfin mollies as big as adult JDs I couldn't get pics of because they hung around in deep water, hope to this Nov with the GoPro.
Each pair of JDs would defend a territory the size of an SUV, which give new insight into what minimum tank size should be for 10" cichlids.
Any other cichlid would be chased away, while other than occasionally eaten, the mollies were ignored.

Followed a uropthalmus patrolling an area the size of a football field.
All the cenotes on the map below are within an hours drive of Cancun, and easily accessed

I hadn't realized the number of cenotes that are so easily accessed.
Blue sailfin mollies that large?!! cast a net out, man... It'd be nice to spread some around.

I was able to snorkel 4 cenotes my last trip, 2 were just south of Tulum.
Crystal on the west side of the highway, basically a bowl shaped pond, contained Astynax tetras and live bearers, but no cichlids.

Escondido on the east side of the highway, larger and wilder, it had livebearers, tetras and xC uropthalmus.

Cristalino was just south of Puerto Aventuras, small, and a bit of a cavelike amphitheater. While snorkeling the sound of jungle birds was incredible, It was full of JDs, large sailfin mollies, catfish and I saw 1 large sleeper goby.

And Eden Cenote, bit larger, filled with JDs and mollies, and a few large xC uropthalmus.

Each cenote had a $5 entry fee, all but Eden were walking distance from the highway, each had a parking area, bathroom facilities were a bit rustic, and bringing your own TP is a good idea.
I only traveled during daylight, but at no time felt threatened.
There was a fabulous little restaurant just south of Tulum and on the beach called Zamas, it also had a quaint hotel attached.

Wow a molly the size of a JD? Thats insane.

I had never seen a molly that amazing, the males were displaying to large females I estimate at below 10'-15' in depth (because that's about as far as I can free dive without fins and a weight belt). The large male mollies seemed to hold a sort of loose territory of a patch algae covered substrate, the intense sunlight made the algae very lush.
Displaying to females, the male mollies would position their bodies to catch the sun, which made the blue almost electric.
The molly below was tiny compared to males at a greater depth
