Just wondering... how aggressvie are these guys? I finally found a local source for some, but have read they can be pretty mean to other tank mates... and may not be the best community fish.

What tankmates have you kept successfully with them?

In my case, my menerambo never bothered any other species, only each other.
I've kept them with Central & South Americans such as Geophagus,Vieja, Paratheraps and Tomocichla, Africans such as Tilapia and Stomatepia and other Madagacans, Paratilapia, Lamena and kieneri.

The de Rham and Nourissat book says they are not aggressive and that it's possible to keep a pair in a 50 gallon tank. However, most of what I've read online suggests that they are more aggressive and need more room than this. I have 3 at about 3" in a 6ft tank and they do a little bit of chasing but cause no damage.

This profile says that they can be very aggressive in small tanks and need a lot of room for breeding:

Here's another profile that suggests larger tanks:

Yeah I believe that is right cichlaholics. Heard they might get a bit over eager during breeding.

In my case, i've been able to keep them with some South Americans and Cyrtocara moori. While they were still juvies, I kept them with Orange chromides and they did fairly well. They weren't overly aggressive, but they did a few chasing around.

Currently I have them housed in a 125. They range in size from 4-6 inches. I have my Paretroplus Dambabe, Paretroplus Maculatus and Paretroplus Menarambo mixed in that tank, but in the future, i hope to separate them. A few other Paretroplus keepers have warned me that they have a high possibility of interbreeding.

I also noticed that, the more of them that you have, the less likely they are to pick on each other.

the macs and the menarambo can breed together.
