Guys,
Is there some reason I see everyone listing the Father/Male fish first when stating hybrid crosses? I breed plants and fish and in the plant world, the Mother/Female is always listed first (easy to remember - "Ladies First").
For instance - the hybrid of a Blood Parrot and Carpintis. It seems to be common knowledge that only the females are fertile. So in my experience, it would be written "Blood Parrot x Carpintis" and not "Carpintis x Blood Parrot". The order they are written implies who was mother/father.
I am just curious if there is a different accepted format or standard being used in the fish world or is it just people not knowing the expected order to list them?
I don't mean to be anal retentive, but it is confusing when they are written in random order, and I think there is a standard in use in Science.
Thanks!
Patrick
