A young pair of Madagascan 'lamena' cichlids have spawned for the first time. They paired up about a month ago and have been behaving quite civil to one another over that time. They most likely spawned a couple of days ago. Last week, I was doing some fish collecting in the Florida Panhandle and arrived home late Sunday evening on April 6th. On Monday morning, I noticed one parent attentively guarding a plaque of eggs. I don't know if this is the male or female, but the second parent is keeping its distance. I only hope the eggs are fertile. I'll be pulling the spawn Tuesday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get a hatch.

Thanks Matt. Yes, that's the plan.

Great news. Congrats!

Great news Jim!! It must be a little warmer at home.

That's awesome Jim! It's amazing just knowing that you came home from your vacation to find them still bonded with no supervision. I've heard that they are aggressive.

Thanks fellows. I've just set up a 10G tank for the eggs and am using methylene blue as the anti-fungicide. Next time Jose, if this doesn't work out, I'll follow your suggested anti-fungicides. And yes, the pair bond held up. I've got eight P. kieneri in there too and the lamena are too busy keeping them in line to fight with each other.

FANTASTIC!!!! Kudos Jim. Can't wait to see more updates :)

Thanks Laurie. I've moved the flower pot with eggs into the 10G. It looks as if no eggs have fungused after 3 days and there are around 300 or so. I'll keep the updates coming.
