Paroon sharks are introduced in Malaysia for human consumption and pet trade, Most paroon shark fingerlings are imported form Thailand as most malaysia fish farmers haven't learn breeding these catfish. Many places like the national zoo of Malaysia and Aquaria KLCC also display this giant catfish. These catfish are also used in Monster fishing resorts due to their giant size and strong strength.

Paroon sharks are also farmed in many places of Malaysia, some breeders keep Paroon sharks with red tilapia but the Paroon shark tried to swallow the tilapia and choked to death, Paroon sharks can be cheap to expensive, an average price of a 1 kg Paroon shark is RM 30-40 (about 8-10 usd), some Chinese restaurants sell Paroon sharks RM 100-250 (about 24-60 usd) per kg as their meat is tender.

In 2020, A fish farm from Perak river broke free many invasive fishes like the paroon shark, common carp, red tilapia and asian red tail total worth 1,658,965 usd been flowed to the perak river, many fishermen then went to the place to catch those invasive fishes even the boat cannot fit it. Another reason that the paroon shark ran into major rivers was because they are used to be reared in abandoned lake mines along with the p.bass, clown knifefish and pacus but they move to major rivers after floods. Now you can still catch paroon sharks in the perak and pahang river.
