My friend has setup a 300 gallon tank at our church. The inhabitants are 2x10" oscars, a 9" gar, a 12" male jag, a 5" parrot cichlid(not a true parrot, but one of those small mouthed, round bodied parrots), a channel cat and a couple silver dollars. For a while he had this really ugly cichlid that kinda looked like a jag with the mouth of a parrot and I asked what it was, he said the jag And the parrot were the only 2 fish in a 40 gallon tank when he went on vaca and when he got back there was fry in the tank. All the fry died except this one who grew to about 10". I don't know much about breeding anything cichlid wise except convicts but I naturally assumed this was not possible. Lo and behold I go to church Sunday nght and glance in the tank and in the corner is this jag and this parrot protecting these fry. How is this possible? I've heard of hybrid cichlids but c'mon... When I go back to church Sunday night I'll get pics, but is this common?
