My wife wants a pair of Parrots, and I don't want to get any that are dyed. What colors can I get that are not dyed?
Will they be OK with JDs, FHs, Mayans, GTs and Texas Cichlids?
I have a 120, and might be upgrading to a bigger tank soon, or I will be removing some of the fish from the tank to prevent overcrowding. All the fish are still small, between 1.5 and 4".

normal color for parrots are orange red, but even some of those are dyed.
Find an honest dealer, and they should tell you if they are dyed or not.

The dye will fade, and if they are fed right (lots of shrimp,) they will still retain their colors.

Parrots are pretty tough, and the ones I have actually stick together to fend off their territories from other cichlids.

But, FH's and GT's maybe a bit too tough for parrots IMO.

Good luck.

Undyed Juvinile BP's should look this, if not completely "grey" untill they peel out to there adult colours. I'll find a pic of a completly grey one. If not chances are its been dyed.

Adults can range from yellow to orange to reddish. I have a beautiful 7" who is definitely in charge of his tank, and that includes a GT and convict! I'd definitely recommend adding one to your tank. Get a larger one if you can-- they grow slowly and the larger ones stick up for themselves more. They have tons of personality!

most parrots that i see are not dyed. the only ones that are dyed are the IheartU ones. I know my Petco sells them but theyre over priced.

Im trying to sell mines but youre located in PA and i only do locals.

i have 50 babies from my first batch at around an inch now.How big before they change color?

It depends on the individual but I've usually seen them change color anywhere from 1.5" to 2.5" total length. Should be soon!
