Had a female parrot fish about 5 inches, laid eggs before with another male parrot. Try to breed her so recently separate her in a 30 gallon tank and introduced a nice 5 inches male green texas cichlid. First couple weeks nothing happened but the female parrot just kept chasing the green texas away from her pot. 4-5 days ago, the green texas was allowed to swim around the pot and the parrot sometimes swim with him together, but still quite a lot aggression to the texas. Yesterday and today, the green texas spent a lot of time "dancing" in front of the parrot and tried to mate with her, but the parrot fish always ignored him. I saw a little "tube" thing near the texas' anal fin but didn't see tube of the female parrot. She has a really fat belly so I guess she is ready to lay eggs again.

Now what should I do to get them breed? Or the female parrot just doesn't like the male? I have another nice male texas with similar size. Should I change another male to give a try or just wait patiently? I heard people saying large water change will induce breeding, will that be helpful at this stage? Anything else I can do to induce the breeding?

Any input will be appreciated! thanks!

whats your tank temp, sometimes a change in the type of foods, more higher quality and more in quantity, water changes, give them time dont rush into switching out a male,
but chrisplosion should know he does the parrot thing they are alien to me as of yet ,

thanks! I now feed them Kens shrimp and earthworm sticks, Hirichi cichlid gold pellet and NLS sinking pellet, accationally some flakes and frozen blood worms. The thing is that both the parrot and the texas don't eat much. the texas is vry picky on food and i don't even see parrot eating when I am close to the tank. I'll do a water change tonight and try to feed a bit more. Thanks!

I have the same pairing except it is a SB red texas. The little male just keeps dancing around the female and she is oblivious!! lol

I would say just give it some more time. Don't wanna thread hijack but I have a video of my texas trying to court one of my parrots.
