So I'm not the biggest fan of parrots but I recently started to give into them especially how big they can get. I went to a local petsmart and saw a little tag saying red devil and next to it I saw blood parrots. I knew right away they were all parrots since I breed Red Devils. Lady says those are great fish the Red Devils. I didn't say anything and she goes they're on sale for 4.00. I snatched 3 of them all they had and put them in my fry tank. Don't worry my fry are much bigger than the parrots mouth.

All have some black on them and are fading. One looked orangeish but all had yellow in them.
Here are some bad pics. I'll update this and a question I have is do they grow like red devil as juveniles or they slow growing?

I swear I told myself no more fish and I go and buy more... Lol
3 parrots yes I know low grade for 13 and some change isn't bad

They grow slow, my female is over a year old; and maybe 4 inches nose to tail fin.

If you get a male they grow bigger and slightly faster, but patience with them is key. I've seen some huge BP's that weren't Mammon, it takes years though in most cases I'd say.

P.S you'll also highly appreciate their curiosity, intelligence and personality; the amphilophus is strong in them lol, though peaceful too mostly. Easily the best type of fish I've kept in all aspects

Funny thing is I went to a lfs and someone donated 3 huge like 9 inch parrots. One was on the ground almost dead and all had some fungus on them. The guy told me he's treating them but I can have them but I don't have a tank to accommodate those big guys. Well hours later I walked away with 3 juveniles instead at petsmart lol

convict360 convict360 - +1 - I would like to add that they love any decorations and very much adaptive to water parameters changes..and Really, I always loved their personality and intelligence! Impressed!!!

Ihsnshaik Ihsnshaik - I've found some of the old photographs for my parrots, the first cichlid in my aquarium dictionary, they were really lovable and enjoyable fish. Hope you like the photos as they are dull and was taken from my first smart phone! lol !! It took a while to search in my old photo albums..

Adding to the parrots personality, You guys wont believe that Bapu (The pink one) was so smart that whenever I used to tease him with the net while cleaning tank, he was literally picking the gravel in his mouth and was throwing at me,.. That picture is still in my mind how he was doing that! I and my wife were laughing at him.. I touch him with net, and he used to go behind the pot, and pick the gravel and coming towards me throwing it... wow!!

That fish was so intelligent that he used to always grab food very fast and he noticed the time and my action that I'm about to feed those guys.. Before I touch the food bottle, he used to come to the water surface and shacking his tail very hard!

Hope you enjoy them, You would feel that these guys are as smarter, or may be better than FH!!
Also, you can find my GT in one picture.. ! he was so naughty but parrot used to give him very hard time lol !!

I am sure that you have read this somewhere, But If not it may be useful as you are going to get addicted to your new guests ! lol.. And did you really swear that they are gonna be your last guests at home.. Every husband says same thing to his wife.. rofl ;-)

I guess, same information is provided in our site - monsterfishkeepers.com and parrotcichlid.com

Swim Bladder Issues: They show an abnormal swimming pattern, may even float upside down or appear to be stuck at the surface of the water, being unable to swim down, or they may lie on the bottom, unable to rise. Fish with a swim bladder disorder will continue to try and feed, showing a normal appetite. This is usually caused by a poor diet. To prevent this from happening it is recommended to feed shelled peas once a week for that days meals. This can also help with mild cases. For severe cases add 1 Tbsp per gallon of Epsom Salt into a container of water. Place the fish in the Epsom Salt bath for 20 - 30 minutes. This can be done twice a day but should only be done as a last resort. Ick/Ich/White Spot: is a common disease of freshwater fish. It is caused by the protozoa Ichtyopthirius. Ick is one of the most common and persistent diseases. Your fish will be covered with white cysts on the skin, fins and gills. Heavily infected fish looks as if they have been sprinkled with sugar and pepper grains. They may scratch themselves against gravel or decorations in the aquarium. Ick is usually deadly if left untreated. To treat ick it is best to first raise to the temperature in the aquarium to 86 - 89F. Then treat the tank with 2 tsp of salt per gallon of water or treat the water with Mardel CopperSafe. Any other treatment can potentially damage the Biofilter so other treatments are not recommended. During treatment it is not recommended that you change the water so before you treat the tank a 25 - 50% water change is recommended. Treatment should take 1 - 2 weeks depending on severity.

Thanks!! Beautiful parrots you had! The pink one was dyed right? I read a lot about parrots before I even picked it up. I never really liked them but the red devil/Midas in them made me want them. I have seems to me one dominant fish that keeps chasing the other two. This is the bigger of the three and was attacking the fire mouths at the store lol.

I was going to add them to my 200 gallon but they're about an inch or smaller and didn't want them to get stressed being with bigger fish. They're in a 10 gallon right now and I will move them once they get settled in and move them to my 40 gallon then my 200 gallon. I know these are low grade blood parrots but I don't think they completely peeled yet I see tons of black on them still.

So, the pink was dyed Or not, That was the mystery.. AS I asked LFS and he told me that he was from Pink Convict + BP mix.. and I believed.. At that time, I was not having sufficient knowledge about them and gathered all knowledge after purchasing them :-)

Also, BP is known for great chaser, and if we have sufficient and appropriate hiding points for other fish in community tank, this guy would be breaking their dominance lol ! yes. so it's an idea..

Anyway, These can be good when they get some good food and TLC from you.. Also Hikari Blood Parrot pallets are the best IMO. And, The black spots are usually sign of the stress which should eventually go out, if this is the case.. OR in your case, you will get all good color if those are not stress spots.. Good luck.. Update periodically to know how they are doing !! :-))

Usually the dyed ones are having only single color Or multiple fancy and very attractive color, looks very artificial, and in my pink one, he was having body color pink and mouth and tail was bit orange shade, so It can be the PC+BP combination... And it did not peeled until he died.. And yes, man.. They both were very expensive and came from reputed breeder to the LFS, and LFS was my old friend.. So I believed him!!

My blood parrot was really skittish at first, I've seen this in most parrots when young; but when they mature a little, they are always at the front of the tank interacting.

Mine is in with tiger barbs, odessa's, corydoras and danio's, all of which aren't even given a second glance.

This is my first cichlid that is shy. They're extremely small I wish I got them bigger just because I can have them in a bigger tank.
