So I'm a full time college student. My financial aid has been getting cut while my tuition has been raising. All my bills are paid through grants and loans, but now I'm just not getting enough money. I have been trying to find a part time job, but every store I go into I just get told to go apply online. I've applied to countless stores well before Christmas and have not gotten a single response. All jobs on campus is full as well. Any suggestions on how to make the process of finding a job easier from somebody who has gone through it?

find a local job source in your area. they often have you take a few tests, add your experience and previous work and find out what type of work you're looking for. employers come to them with positions they're trying to fill and if it's something the job source thinks you'd be interested in, they forward the info to you. not every place has it but it's somethin to look into. alot of places have an office on their community college for this type of thing

Oh gosh i feel for you on a very deep and personal level. Try restaurant work. Go to the same restaurants every week and try for server or hostess...both get tips. Turnover is extremely high in those jobs and you may be told no thanks one week, and the next week be their saviour cuz their hostess or server skipped town without notice.

I work at a LFS and we are always looking for people because of the lack of experienced fish keepers.

Try local stores and get to know everybody. Employers would much rather hire people they know than take a complete risk. That's how I got my job at a LFS. I worked at a supermarket, and I got to know the manager personally, bugged him about a job almost every time I was there, and when he wanted to fire an employee he set me up with the job.

I live in LA too. There aren't any jobs anywhere. Not even the crappy stuff, like being a dishwasher at a restaurant.

good luck?? Its hard, everyone is looking for jobs and there just not many of them out there. Just keep filling/updating applications apply at the mall, at resturaunts or pretty much anything and everything even if its not your "preffered" choice, and dont go with an attitude that you are to good to work at mc'd's. I was in the market for a new job for 5 months before I finally found one. Getting to know people is a good way to get a job, but dont come off as pushy either. Try to make you availability as good as possible. Just keep filling them out, talking to people and making rounds eventually someone will have an opening to fill. You can see if there are any job fairs or a place on campus to help you find a job.
