image.jpg Hello, ive been having some problems with my water clarity (picture shown) where white particles begin to build up in my fish tank, I run a 50 gallon with a sump filtration system. I originally thought they were just air particles in the water because of how fast the pump return is, but when I shut off the sump, the particles build up into a film on the top of the fish tank. This is a relatively new fish tank setup (6 weeks). And I don't want my fish to be harmed because of my incompetence. Is this harming the fish? Or should I let it remain in the tank and it's just my lighting that is making it come out more. Thanks!

Do you have hard water that isn't being softened? Take a glass of water from your source (tap, well, etc.) and let it sit for a few hours. Do you see a white film? After you wash your glasses, do they look like they have a light layer of cake-like white spots? If so, you hard water that's not being treated.

Otherwise, idk. Never had that in any of my tanks, but maybe you could sift some of the water out and see if you can see particles. In theory it could be from smoke, dust, etc. that is somehow being added to the water after the source.

It could be from what you feed, if you feed flakes and your fish don't eat all of them then they Gould be in your water column, also it could be your substrate what is it. Try and put some filter floss in the filter
