I have the 8500. The best Radar I have ever owned bro. It is better than the valantine.IMO
I love it!!! I got mine for cost about 2 years ago

I leave mine on highway, although sometimes I use the auto feature. The only bad thing you can't turn the x band off on highway mode. I love how it can pick up nine separate radars at once in expert mode or it can display the frequency.

should i leave it in auto mode? do i get alot of warning distance from me and the laser beaming at me?

Auto mode is Great. I use mostly the highway mode and that gets really far distance, guessing about a quarter/half mile in some cases, unless the cops are using instant-on. It all depends on the area. Around here if the K or KA band goes off, it is a cop somewhere. Only two spots I know of that it gives a false reading on the K bands.

My lazer band never goes off.

so i should do highway mode....what are the differences between highway, city, and auto

cause today there is this radar thing on the side of the road that shows you how fast you are going...i dont know what they are called...but it'll beam you and show what your speed is...and if you go over it starts to blink fast...my 8500 x50 did not pick that up too well....i was about only 40 feet away when it warned me...i hope it does not do the same if it was a cop.....

Your best bet is to play around with all the features and find one that best suits your driving/area. The Auto is a mix of highway and city. As for the radar/speed check, it is that way when I go by them. The thing is cops can adjust there radar to close range or up to a 1/4 mile distance. Or they can just flip it on when they see you get near them.

My cousin works for the Sheriffs Dept. He gave me all the Info on using his radar. He wanted me to test mine out with his car once when he was in the market for one, but we never did. I told him just buy it, it works great. I haven't had a "speeding" ticket since I owned it(knock on wood).

iam still kinda scared tho..i slow down at points where cops sometimes stay...and mostly im paranoid that a cop might just flip on his radar as he sees me coming

thats really the point i got this radar detector....really no point of gettin one if i always slow down at cop spots
