When you guys buy something using pay pal what do you say as for why are you paying it? The reason is that i want to buy some filters and im using pay pal and the guy asked to send the money via payment owed. I know you can despute transactions from there if things dont go right but can you do that on all forms of payment?

you can dispute transactions done threw paypal using a logged in account, most of the times the money will be held by paypal.

when sending someone money you need to say what your paying for because it shows up on your credit card (if thats your method of payment) and because of sales tax.

Payment owed is one of the few "Personal Transaction" options. If you use Personal Transaction, and if the fund withdraw directly from your bank account, instead of credit card, you don't have to pay the fee of 2.9% +$0.30. If you use the Business Transaction, or if you use your credit card to pay thru Paypal, then you have to pay the fee. The guy just give you a suggestion that you don't have to pay the extra fee.

I think there might be some liability inclusions that could be lost if you use the personal options. I would be safe and stick with the business side of the transactions unless you really know the person. There's a reason any real vendor will force you to use the business one. Protection for both sides of the transaction.

He's right. If a seller asks you to do something to misrepresent the transaction, it will cause a problem if you have to dispute the charges. Paypal will not be happy that you did it and you will automatically lose any credibility. Same thing with "gift" payments. With e-payment systems like Paypal, you are not covered under the Fair Credit Billing Act...There are loopholes for e-payment that do not allow you to exercise your rights, so be very aware that Paypal can royally screw you if you do not follow their rules. Google this stuff.

Definitely put the reason for it as a sale or some other sale orientated wording. If it is a business transaction then keep it as such because I am sure you do not have any come back if he cheats you and it is a personal transaction.

i'm not buying put money owed just to save on taxes or additional charges. you can't dispute a claim on money owed unless you claim it wasn't you that made the transaction
