my armatus acts like a cichlid. i can sit in a chair with my face just a few inches from the tank and he will follow my face around the tank. he is very interested in me and not skittish at all. i had 2 adult silver dollers in the tank about 5-6 inches round. he bit the one a couple times then bit it in the head and killed it. i threw the other silver doller in my pond. anyone else see this kind of behaviour in the payara? if you share any thoughts plz include the size of your payara. mine is 15 inches and just massive belly to back.

My old 16"er would follow me to and come to the front of the tank as we both would say "man he's ugly" Lol. If I remember correctly, my Armatus had more character than my 16" VATF.
I'm back in the Payara game so we will see how this ones character turns out :)

My 10" Scomb will do the samething - stare at the edge of the glass, not skittish at all. Victims - Shanked w/ scars - Red tail chacleus, Yellowtail cuda. Killed from shanking - 1 red tail chalcues, 2 Red tail cudas, 1 Microlepus cuda. Ate - 1 hydro Tat, 1 Red tail Cuda, 2 Microlepus cuda - Chases and nips Odoe Pike and Red tail Brycon. Won't bother - At + ST Dats, BGK, Gangantic leaf fish, Texas Escondido Male, Vampire pleco, Gold nugget pleco - go figure the Plec's and leaf fish are easy targets.

Hydrolycus have atitudes.

Yup thats typical armatus behavior

Can i ask wht u are feeding him? Wht size tank? And how long have u had him?

i feed him tilapia, whiting and walleye fillets also krill and market shrimp. ive had him for about 6 months now. i bought him from a member on here already at 13 and hes put on about 2 inches since. the bad thing is hes in a 180 gallon so either im going to step up or keep him as long as i can then sell him to my buddy who has a 300 gallon which in reality is also to small for a large armatus. i am currently looking for a 275 gallon but hard to come by where i live.
