payara compatability

There maybe some wrestling or snapping of there jaws to show aggression. But from my experience it never ends in any damage.

I had 4 from 5-8" and 3 of them schooled very closely like alot of barracuda's. But one of them was a loner and he took a portion of the tank as his territory. And would make a dash at anyone that came close. But never would get close enough to make contact.

I still have the aggressive one after 4.5yrs and he is still the same. He is housed with 2 scombs, 2 hujeta's, and 1 charax gibbus. And he still owns the same corner of the tank.

So it all depends on the fish to whether you will see any aggression or not. But even in the worse situation I think the damage would not be more than a scratch. IMO

thanks for the info but will barracudas fight each other i have a yellowtail right now but im going to add a falactus or altus will there be any probs or will it be like the payara

I have never seen any aggression between like sized cuda's.

But I have lost several cuda's to other larger cuda's. As long as the new cuda is not food size then it will be fine.

Cuda's school alot better than payara. IMO

I've been trying to put together a shoal of tats but they are hard to come by lately and I've been held to a trio for some time now. That is untill the biggest tat killed one of the smaller ones so the remaining two are almost inseperable now.The smaller one is the same size as the tat that was killed off.

Yes,I should have moved it but I did'nt think things would get as far as they ultimately did.

I would have never guessed it etheir.

i am going to be ordering 2-3 red tail payara 6-7" how long should it take for them to start eating silversides like the ones my yellowtail barracuda and gar eat?

I could never get mine off live, but on the other hand did not put a lot of effort into it. He would show no interest in anything not moving, not even a little. Good luck, with other fish in the tank that take frozen food he may pick op on it. Another thing my tat hid out on the bottom not paying attention to the top, so he did not watch other fish eat and when the food sank past him he did not care for it.

Where are you ordering them from?
