My Payara Has just stopped eating or so it seems. I moved him to a 52g tank with gyppy, platy and lots of Brachydanio rerio but he doesn't seem to eat. what to do?

/Mike

You mentioned in your other thread about your snakehead with HITH that you just moved house. It could be due to stress that they're not eating. How llong has it been since your move?

They are fragile fish, They need the current when they are larger as they don't have the muscle to cope with strong current when small and tend to hide in a corner with little current.

exactly

They need that huge flow as adults, juveniles are more comfortable in stiller water.

if your payara is alone, try buying another one. i bought one payara and it didnt eat for a week, then i bought another one, and now they are comfortable together and eat regularly, though the alligator gars scare them sometimes

MrHarris did you happen to get 2 of the same type like at a pet store. Because I ordered mine offline and am afraid ill get a different type.

Hypatheticly I get another one and its a different kind of payara will they school up, or fight, or ignore each other ? ? ? ?

Mine is about 8 inches, when should I up the current? I have good filters with strong current but where they are pointed the tank is calm. He doesnt eat as much as i think he should, shall i up the current ? ? ?

I got one from my local and it didn't eat for three weeks. My LFS had said that they didn't like to be moved and always stopped eating for a couple of weeks.
Thats been my experience with them, they dont like to be disturbed.I have three different types, scomb, tat, armatus andthey do well for now with the armatus snapping at the other two but nothing too bad yet. When I moved them to a bigger tank,I did it at night after the lights were off for a few hours and they still thrashed about but not as much as they would have had they been fully awake.
