im getting my red tail payara this thurs, and have the tank all set up and ready(pics comming later). a couple of qns i'd like answered thou,

1.do they like strong currents?
2.about what size do they reach in captivity?
3. will a 6"er be okay with a 4" african aro?

thanks in advanced!!

Mine like current but not too much. Too much and they freak.

I have yet to see one much over a foot. Most that keep Tats usually have them ending up as Armatus snacks.

The Tat and aro may be ok for a lil while but the arro will quickly outgrow the Tat. And I'm willing to guess the Arro will probobly consume a LOT more of the food you put in there.

i have loads of current in my tank.
but its only at the upper part of the tank.
my tat usually stays near the current.
but when he gets tired he moves away.
they can reach 18 inches in captivity.
personally i have seen one over a foot either.
but have seen pics of 18 inchers.
he should be fine w the aro.
until it is outgrown by the aro.

Define lots of current...........

My 125 has (3) AC 110s. (1) Fluval 405 (1) Aqua clear 802 power head and (1) penguin powerhead.

This combo seemed to be fine. No real problems.

I then added a Rio 3100 as a powerhead. That was the straw that broke the camels back. Immediatly after plugging in they started freakin. I didn't try dispersing the current. All 3 powerheads and the fluval were at one end pointing towards the other.
